Jeff Frier has worked for over forty years in the marine industry. Jeff started his career at Chatham Dockyard and, on completion of a four-year apprenticeship, studied Naval Architecture at Newcastle University.
Following graduation in 1982, he joined Lloyds Register of Shipping and worked in the London Head Office where he gained experience in the application of statutory and rule requirements. In 1986 he transferred to Busan, S. Korea to work in the LR Plan Approval Group where he was responsible for the structural verification of various ship types. He also gained experience on the survey of ship construction.
In 1990, Jeff transferred back to the UK and joined BP Shipping where he was employed in their technical department supporting tanker operations. He also worked in BP Shipping’s vetting group where he was responsible for reviewing the structural aspects of chartered tonnage to ensure it met BP’s standards.
In 1994, Jeff started work with the Classification Society Det Norske Veritas working in both UK and Miami, USA as a senior surveyor. In addition to qualifying as an ISM auditor, he undertook the survey of cruise ships operating in the Caribbean. In 2000 he returned to the UK and became District Manager of the London office.
In 2001 he joined the Carnival Corporate Shipbuilding team as Senior Naval Architect and was subsequently promoted to Principal Manager. He worked on various new buildings for the Carnival group including the prestigious Queen Mary 2 project.
In 2006 he joined Norwegian Cruise Line as VP of, Technical working in both the US and Europe where he was responsible for the technical operation of 14 cruise ships and new build projects.
Jeff is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects, sits on the Board of Trustees and presently serving as Treasurer.
