Michael Drayton is a former Chairman of the Baltic Exchange. Michael is a well-known figure in the marine industry, having joined shipbroking firm Galbraith’s, a U.K. ship brokerage company, in July 1972. He was elected to the Baltic Exchange in 1974 and specialised in the sale and purchase for most of his broking career.
In 1978 he was appointed as Galbraith’s shareholder representative in Anglo-Eastern, Hong Kong (then a joint venture shipbroking company) where he worked until 1985. On his return to London, he was appointed a director of Galbraith’s and served as Head of the Sale & Purchase Division of Galbraith’s from 1987 to 2003. Michael played a major role in structuring and executing a successful management buyout of the company in September 1986 from its parent Midland Bank group.
In 2004 he was appointed Chairman of Arlington Tankers, Bermuda, a company formed by an IPO on the New York stock exchange and served as Chairman and Director of the company until December 2008.
Michael is a Shipwright and has been an active member of the RAC for many years. He is also Vice President to the Caravan Club and maintains a collection of classic cars.
